The Burton Police Department is a progressive agency serving over 30,000 citizens residing in an area of 23.5 square miles. The Department employs 41 sworn personnel, four non-sworn support staff, and a chaplain. A lieutenant commands each division. Three sergeants are assigned to the patrol division, one for each shift, while one is assigned administrative duties.

The investigation division has three permanently assigned detectives and two assigned on a year-long rotating basis.

The patrol division has assignments to Courtland Center, traffic enforcement and community service. Within the sworn personnel are officers trained in tactical deployment, critical incident negotiations, accident reconstruction, K-9 tracking and drug detection, Field Training,  D.A.R.E. and F.A.N.G. (Flint Area Narcotics Group).

Administrative Office Hours
Administrative offices and the Detective Bureau are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM.

Handgun purchase permits, registration and permits to carry concealed weapons (CCW) are only available during the following hours:
  • Tuesday through Friday
    • 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
    •   2:00 PM to   4:00 PM
